When Wedding Event Design (WED) first launched in 2009, we literally hit the ground running. We were a new business, and when you’re just starting out you feel like the hustle and grind are just part of the process. But in all of the effort and pressure to establish our brand, looking back I see now that I didn’t give myself the chance to take a step back and zero in on the parts of WED that needed a little more tender loving care.
“I’m too busy.”
“There’s not enough time in the day.”
“I’ll get to it when I can.”
These are all things I regularly told myself when faced with taking some time to focus on certain aspects of our business.
And then 2020 happened.
Once I finished having my pity party over the year that could have been, I realized that these unprecedented times presented a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and reset. We’re all trying to figure out how to navigate 2020, and while it has certainly had its share of challenges it’s also provided the space for clarity and growth.
As I’ve embraced this unplanned time of reflection, I’ve come to a few conclusions that I know will serve me well going forward:
Make plans, but stay flexible
We’re in the business of events, which means a detailed plan is always a part of the equation. However, if this year has taught us anything, it’s that we have to always be willing to adjust and adapt.
Be intentional with your time
Life comes at you fast, and suddenly we end up in a place where we’re being pulled in a hundred different directions. It’s so important to be diligent about thinking ahead and setting time aside for the things that matter most, no matter how big or small.
Trust your abilities
Before this year, it would have been hard to imagine a scenario where WED kept going strong in a time where events were not happening. Although 2020 created new obstacles for so many of us, I had to trust that I’d find a way to turn this setback into a major comeback.
Once I let go of my expectations for a traditional year in our business, I was able to lean fully into taking WED to the next level and preparing us for success in the future.
So, without further delay, please allow me to reintroduce you to Wedding Event Design.
